Women’s Soccer Held Scoreless at UMBC, 2-0

BALTIMORE – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Sunday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park.
The Wildcats fell to 4-3-0 in the America East with an overall record of 6-8-3. The Retrievers improved to 2-2-2 in the league and 4-9-3 overall.
UNH was held scoreless for the first time since a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Northeastern University on Sept. 20. As a team, the Wildcats held a 16-5 shot advantage and a 5-0 corner kick lead. Senior Gabrielle Sloan (Stow, Mass.) rifled four shots followed by sophomore Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) with three. Junior Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) made three saves in goal, dropping her record to 6-8-3 overall.
On UMBC's Senior Day, junior Destinee Morris and senior Amanda Dailey tallied goals. Freshman Karen Aye recorded an assist on the game's opening goal. In net, senior Jen Nance had a solid outing with six saves for her third shutout of the season.
The Retrievers notched their first goal early, when Morris beat a defender inside the box and chipped Borkan in net to take a 1-0 lead.
The 'Cats took six shots in the first half but was unable to bury any chances as they went into the break with a 1-0 deficit.
UMBC's Dailey drilled the dagger in the 67th minute from a headed pass by Gabby Boehmer. Dailey ripped a shot which was initially saved by a diving Borkan but the rebound opportunity was placed in the back of the net to go up 2-0.
In the final 15 minutes, the Wildcats were relentless with offensive pressure. UNH took five shots, forcing Nance to make three saves in net. In the 81st minute the 'Cats had back-to-back corner kicks but were squandered on both attempts.
New Hampshire will close out its regular season Thursday, Oct. 22 (6 p.m.) against the University of Hartford in a rematch of last year's conference championship at Al-Marzook Field.
