Women’s Soccer Looks to Upend UMBC (Oct. 18; 1 p.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team is set to take on 2014 America East Championship semifinals opponent University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Sunday, Oct. 18 (1 p.m.) at Retriever Soccer Park.
LAST TIME OUT FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE (6-7-3, 4-2-0 AE)
In its last time out, UNH lost a matchup to the University of Maine (Oct. 15), 2-1, in overtime. The Black Bears scored the game-winner in the 92nd minute to give the 'Cats their second America East loss. Senior Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) scored her 11th goal of the season 26 minutes, 43 seconds into the game. Senior Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.) recorded an assist on the goal for her eighth on the season. Junior Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) notched three saves in net, dropping her record to 6-7-3 overall.
LAST TIME OUT FOR UMBC (3-9-3, 1-2-2 AE)
UMBC also played Maine in their last time out (Oct. 11), dropping a 1-0 decision in regulation. The Retrievers committed a foul in the box in the 70th minute that resulted in a PK goal. UMBC has had seven days off since their last game.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. THE RETRIEVERS
New Hampshire holds an 8-2-3 record all-time over UMBC. Last season, the two teams met in the America East Championship semifinals (Nov. 2) when the Wildcats defeated the Retrievers in penalty kicks to head to the finals and eventually win their first conference title. In the regular season, both teams were held scoreless in a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Bremner Field. UNH is 3-1-2 against UMBC going back to 2010.
SCOUTING THE RETREIVERS
The team averages one goal and 1.48 goals against per game. Gabby Boehmer leads the team in goals (six) and points (13). The next closest is Destinee Morris who has compiled two goals and one assist for five points. In net, Jen Nance has started 13 of 14 games so far this season. Her goals against average is 1.36 and she has recorded a save percentage of .767.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Murphy leads the team with 11 goals and 26 points to pace the conference in both categories. Murray holds the top spot in assists (eight) and is second on the team with 10 points. Borkan has started all 16 games with a save percentage of .771 and a goals against average of 1.33.
PLAYOFF CLINCH
UNH can clinch a playoff spot with a win OR a tie vs. UMBC OR a loss and a loss by the University at Albany.
AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP IMPLICATIONS
New Hampshire was bumped from the top spot in the conference following the 2-1 overtime loss to Maine (Oct. 15). Now sitting in second place, UNH has compiled 12 points this season, tied with the University of Hartford who holds the number one spot. Maine and the University of Vermont each have 10 points this season. The top two teams will get quarterfinal byes while teams ranked third and fourth will host the quarterfinal round of the America East Championships.

The 2014 America East All-Rookie Team member is on pace to secure more postseason recognition this season. She has matched her goals total from last year with 11 and has totaled 26 points, three more than last season, all in 16 games played. Murphy leads the league in goals and points this season after finishing second in both categories last year. The Massachusetts Native is tied for 12th in the nation in both total goals and total points.

In 2014, she compiled nine points with two goals, both game-winners, and five assists. In her senior campaign, the Connecticut Native has scored one goal and dished out eight assists. Her eight assists have surpassed last year's total, and currently Murray leads the league in that category. Murray is tied for 12th in the country in total assists.
