DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman Elinor Purrier (Richford, Vt.) led the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team and finished fourth overall in a tri-meet featuring Providence and Holy Cross Saturday, finishing with a time of 17:36.
Providence, ranked No. 1 in the nation, finished first through third in the race while Purrier was right behind in fourth. Samantha Blais (Lyndenborough, N.H.) crossed the plane in sixth with a time of 17:55, as senior co-captain Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.) posted a seventh-place result with a time of 18:05. Meagan Boucher (Manchester, N.H.) finished eighth (18:08) as Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.) (18:09) and Cayla Pellegrini (Derry, N.H.) (18:10) took ninth and tenth, respectively.
Sarah Keiran (Ipswich, Mass.) and Amber Short (Keene, N.H.) finished consecutively in 13th and 14th. Keiran crossed the finish line with a time of 18:17 as Short came in to a time of 18:19. Chelsey Serrano (Manchester, N.H.) rounded out the UNH top-20 with a 19th place result. She ran the course with a time of 18:38.
The team will return to action Friday, Sept. 20 as they travel to the University of Maine for a dual-meet with the Black Bears. The women will start at 3 p.m.
