CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a strong performance in the opening week of the outdoor season, senior Laura Stern (Shirley, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team was named the America East Field Performer of the Week, announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
Following a three-year layoff due to multiple injuries, Stern returned to action for the first time since her freshman year and won the javelin throw at Northeastern University's Husky Spring Open. She topped the field of 29 with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 44.98 meters (147-07), marking the 29th best throw in the nation so far this season.
Stern captured the 2009 America East outdoor javelin title as a freshman with a winning toss of 149-10.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, March 31 when they take on the University of Maine at the Beckett Track & Field Complex in Orono, Maine.
