ORONO, Maine - The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team claimed victories in five events at the Maine-UNH dual meet Saturday afternoon at New Balance Field House in Orono, Maine.
Freshman Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.) opened the meet by leading a quartet of Wildcats that swept the 800-meter race. Piazza claimed first in the event, crossing the finish line in 1-minute and 54.48-seconds. Senior Eric Stys (Stittville, N.Y.) followed in second place (1:56.98), freshman Christopher Poggi (Dover, N.H.) took third place (1:57.98), and James Anderson (Melrose, Mass.) finished in fourth place (1:59.27).
UNH also swept the top-three spots in the 3,000-meter race. Jeremy Wildgoose (Woodstock, Conn.) posted first in the race with a time of 8:39.45, Brendan McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) earned second with a time of 8:40.62, and John Corona (Middletown, Conn.) finished third with a time of 8:46.50.
Wildcat sprinter D'Mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) had himself a great day, taking first place in the 60-meter hurdles, second in the 200-meter dash, and third in the 60-meter dash. McFadden posted a time of 8.37 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles. In his second-place finish during the 200-meter dash, McFadden timed in at 22.84 seconds, and in his third place finish in the 60-meter dash he posted a 7.19-second time.
The Wildcats also proved victorious in both relay events on the day, claiming the top spots in the 4x400 and the 4x800. Ross Hardy (North Andover, Mass.), Tyler Mulcahy (Weymouth, Mass.), Seth Sheridan (Ashburnham, Mass.), and John Cox (Rome, Ga.) made up the 4x400 squad that finished first with a time of 3:26.08. Poggi, Stys, Zachary Chabot (Manchester, N.H.), and Jacob Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.) ran for the 4x800 team the earned first with a 8:00.78 mark.
