WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Freshman forward Kevin Goumas (Lake Worth, Fla.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week. In addition, UNH was named Hockey East Team of the Week. The announcements were made Monday morning by the league office. Goumas is the second Wildcat to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season as Jeff Silengo earned this award on Dec. 13, 2010.
Goumas tallied two goals and an assist over the weekend. The freshman forward netted the game-winning goal Friday night and followed that up with a goal and an assist on Saturday night. He had five shots and was a +3 on the weekend.
UNH captured a pair of wins to complete the season sweep of rival Maine. The 'Cats captured a 6-3 win Friday night and followed that up with a dramatic 5-4 win Saturday night. New Hampshire claimed sole possession of first place with the win and has now won four in a row and 11 of 12 in Hockey East play.
