Wildcat hockey picked second in Hockey East preseason coaches poll

WAKEFIELD, Mass.-- The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was selected second in the Hockey East preseason coaches poll, which was announced Tuesday afternoon at Legends Restaurant in the FleetCenter.

The Wildcats received one first-place vote and 63 total points as voted by the nine league coaches. The Boston College Eagles were picked to win the league with eight first-place votes and 72 total points. UNH was followed by Boston University (58 pts.) in the third spot and the University of Maine (50) in the fourth slot.

UNH was picked second in the 2002-2003 coaches poll, fourth in the 2001-2002 poll and went on to win the Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles in both seasons.

UNH opens the season with an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 4 against the U.S. Select-18 Team. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m. The 'Cats open the regular season on Homecoming weekend, Saturday, Oct. 11 vs. Vermont at the Whittemore Center. Game time is 7 p.m.
