CARON CLEARED TO PLAY FOR UNH HOCKEY

DURHAM, N.H.- The University of New Hampshire athletic department and head men's hockey coach Dick Umile learned on Wednesday evening through the compliance office that sophomore forward Eddie Caron (Hudson, N.H.) will be eligible to compete effective immediately.

"I'm extremely happy for Eddie and his family," Coach Umile said. "I would like to extend a special thanks to Dave O'Connor, our Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, and (Yale head hockey coach) Tim Taylor and Yale University for their support. Everyone is excited for Eddie's return to the program. He excels not only on the ice, but in the classroom."

Caron was a member of the 2001-2002 Wildcats, recording six goals and seven assists for 13 points in his freshman season in 34 games.

"This decision comes as an immense relief to me," Caron stated. "I'm truly humbled by the opportunity to file away the lessons I've learned and forget every shift I have missed. I owe a tremendous debt to a great number of people, most notably Coach Umile, Dave O'Connor, (UNH Athletic Director) Marty Scarano and (Academic Advisor) Gail Stepina. Each gave of their time and energy to help me get back into the game that means so much to me."
