DURHAM, N.H,-- University of New Hampshire junior defenseman Garrett Stafford (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career for his effort in the 7-1 win vs. Vermont on Saturday night. Stafford notched an assist on Colin Hemingway's game winning goal and also set up Darren Haydar's goal, UNH's fourth goal of the game.

Stafford recorded two assists and finished with a +2 rating and helped the Wildcats hold Vermont to 12 shots on opening night.

UNH returns to action on the road at Merrimack on Thursday, October 18th and on October 20th at Rennselaer.
