Eighteen 'Cats Named an America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete

BOSTON – Eighteen University of New Hampshire student-athletes were named an America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete on Thursday in recognition of exemplary academic achievement through their college careers. The 18 honorees ranked second among the nine conference schools.
Ande Allison (Carlisle, Ohio) and Ashley Buchheit (Downington, Pa.) of the women's soccer team led the way for the Wildcats with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and they were joined as Presidential Scholar-Athletes by teammates Ella Dudley (St. Augustine, Fla.) and Alivia Kelly (Pembroke, Mass.).
Both the UNH women's cross country/track & field teams and volleyball team also had four representatives. The women's cross country/track & field honorees were Madison Hoppler (Durham, N.H.), Hannah Langstaff (Windham, Maine), Lizzie Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Sarah Morin (Portsmouth, N.H.).
The four distinguished volleyball student-athletes were Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.), Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.), Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) and Jamison White (Nashville, Tenn.).
Field hockey had a pair of student-athletes honored – Reagan Calcari (St. Louis, Mo.) and Olivia Watson (Easton, Pa.) – as did lacrosse with Julia Lucey (Topsfield, Mass.) and Payton Maddaloni (Mattituck, N.Y.) making the list.
Abby McKinney (Westfield, N.J.) of swimming & diving and Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) of men's cross country/track & field were the other two decorated Wildcats.
A record number of 142 student-athletes earned an undergraduate degree in the 2023-24 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher to be recognized as a Presidential Scholar-Athlete. In addition to meeting the academic standard, graduates must have attended their institution for a minimum of two years.
The Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award started in the 2013-14 academic year and a total of 968 elite student-athletes have been honored as part of the program.
America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country that honors over two-thirds of its student-athletes for classroom success, including its sports Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic honorees, Presidential Scholar-Athletes and its Honor Roll Elite 18 recipients.
