INDIANAPOLIS – The University of New Hampshire athletic department earned an NCAA Graduation Success Rate score of 95 percent, including nine teams with a perfect mark of 100, in the most recent data that was released Wednesday. UNH's mark bested the national average of 91 percent.
This year's overall GSR is the sixth consecutive year UNH recorded a mark of 95 percent or higher; the Wildcats recorded a 95 last year, 96 in 2022, 95 in both 2021 and 2020, and 96 in 2019. This is also the 10th consecutive year at 90 or higher with 93 in 2018, 92 in 2017, 91 in 2016, and 90 in 2015.
"Our consistently strong GSR is a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff to keep academic success and graduation top priority at the University of New Hampshire," UNH Director of Athletics Allison Rich said. "Our student-athletes strive for excellence in the classroom, in competition, and in life, and we will continue to provide them the support and resources they need as they become Wildcats for Life."
New Hampshire is the conference leader in 10 sports, including the nine sports that received a perfect mark of 100; they are women's basketball, women's cross country & track, field hockey, gymnastics, women's ice hockey, lacrosse, women's skiing, women's soccer and volleyball.
Men's soccer is UNH's other America East leader at 95 percent.
All nine programs with a perfect 100 have done so for multiple consecutive NCAA GSR reports: gymnastics (20 years), women's skiing (nine), women's soccer (nine), lacrosse (seven), field hockey (six), women's basketball (five), volleyball (five), women's ice hockey (four), women's cross country and track (three).
Three other UNH teams scored a 90 or higher with swimming & diving (94) followed by men's cross country & track, and men's basketball (90).
Men's basketball recorded a year-over-year improvement of +7 from last year; other teams that improved from last year are men's cross country & track (+4), men's skiing (+3) and swimming & diving (+1).
Overall, 13 of 16 UNH teams recorded a GSR equal to or higher than the sport's national average. The men's cross country & track team leads the way at +9. Football and women's cross country & track are both +8, and women's basketball is +7.
New Hampshire recorded the third highest GSR in America East behind the University of Vermont (98) and Bryant University (96). UNH was followed by Binghamton and UMass Lowell at 93, NJIT (92), UAlbany and UMBC (86), and Maine (81).
The GSR indicates the percentage of scholarship student-athletes earning a degree within six years; these numbers reflect graduation numbers among student-athletes who entered college in fall 2017. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. Unlike the federal graduation rate, the GSR takes transfer students into account.
