Martin, Sandsten, Bodewes, Hartman, Bruneau-Bouchard & Woodhouse elected
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire ski program has announced its captains for the 2020 season. The alpine team features women's captain Emma Woodhouse(Collingwood, Ontario) and men's captain Will Bruneau-Bouchard(Quebec City, Quebec). The women's Nordic co-captains are Elizabeth Martin(Freeport, Maine) and Kaja Sandsten(Oppdal, Norway), while the men's Nordic co-captains are Will Bodewes(Durango, Colo.) and Bryce Hartman(Saranac Lake, N.Y.).
Emma Woodhouse
Woodhouse, a two-time NCAA All-American and two-time team MVP, is now a two-time captain. The senior placed ninth in giant slalom and 10thin slalom at the 2019 NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Vermont. The Collingwood, Ontario, native earned All-East First Team recognition after ranking fifth in SL and eighth in GS during the EISA Carnival season.
Will Bruneau-Bouchard
Bruneau-Bouchard, a junior, was named captain on the heels of a 2019 season that saw him earn team MVP honors en route to his first career NCAA appearance. The native of Quebec City, Quebec, was EISA's No. 12-ranked skier (No. 8 in SL) and earned four Top-10 finishes during the season.
"We are fortunate to draw upon the experience of Emma and Will, two MVPs and NCAA competitors who lead by example in their preparation and training habits," 13th-year alpine head coach Brian Blank said. "Their teammates recognized these leadership qualities in electing them as their captains."
Elizabeth Martin
Martin, a senior, competed in nine races last season and earned points in two of them. The native of Freeport, Maine, earned a place in the Nordic lineup at the EISA Championships at Bates, where she raced in both the 5K skate and the 15K classic.
Kaja Sandsten
Sandsten is a captain for the second straight season. The junior recorded the Wildcats' top score in seven races last year, including the 15K classic and the 5K skate at the EISA Championships/Bates Carnival. The Oppdal, Norway, native registered a season-best 18th-place finish in the 10K classic at Middlebury.
Will Bodewes
Bodewes, a senior, earns the captaincy after winning the men's Nordic MVP award last season. The three-time National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team member was the top performing Wildcat six times in 2019, with an individual season-high 17thplace in the 20K classic at EISAs. The Durango, Colo., native was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Student-Athlete Honor Society, in April.
Bryce Hartman
Hartman, a senior from Saranac Lake, N.Y., was a consistent member of the lineup last season who registered points in seven races. He was UNH's top finisher in the 10K free at the UVM Carnival and the 10K skate at EISAs.
"Kaja, Lizzy, Will and Bryce all possess the leadership skills that embody what it means to be a captain," 38th-year UNH ski coordinator/Nordic head coach Cory Schwartz. "They will lead from the front as we get ready to compete this season."
The UNH ski team opens the 2020 season at the inaugural Harvard Carnival on Jan. 17-18 with Nordic races at Dublin School and alpine action scheduled for Waterville.
