LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Keely Maguire (Georgetown, Mass.) placed 58th overall to lead the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team to a 23rd place finish in the 37-team seeded division at the NCAA Pre-Nationals Invitational Saturday at Tom Sawyer State Park.
The Wildcats were the only America East team at the major meet and finished with 628 points, while No. 1 Florida State captured the meet with 72 points. UNH faced off against some of the top teams in the nation, including No. 4 Oregon (2nd – 87 points), No. 8 Michigan (3rd – 141 points), and No. 6 Georgetown (4th – 163 points).
Maguire, who placed 30th at last week's Paul Short Invitational, completed the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21:07.8. Maguire, a 2011 All-Conference and All-Region selection, led the Wildcats for the first time this season.
Junior Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.) placed 114th, crossing the finish line in a time of 21:42.2. Sophomore Chelsey Serrano (Manchester, N.H.) and junior Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.) finished 141st and 145th, respectively, at 21:53.7 and 21:57.0.
Senior Darcy James (Exeter, N.H.) recorded a 170th-place finish in a time of 22:10.1 to round out the Wildcat scorers.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday Oct. 27 when they host the America East Championships at College Woods. The women's race is slated to start at 10 a.m.
