UNH's Parker named cross country Performer of the Week

Her first-place finish led 'Cats to victory

BOSTON -- Catherine Parker (Westford, Mass./Westford), a sophomore on the University of New Hampshire cross country team, was named the America East women's Cross Country Performer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Parker won the individual title at the Third Annual Ted Owens Cross Country Invitational, which was held by Central Connecticut State University on Sept. 17. The Wildcats ran as a group in the first two miles of the 5K course, then Parker ran a very strong last mile to chase down the leaders and cross the finish line in 18 minutes, 9 seconds -- an impressive 12 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.

Parker's victory propelled the 'Cats to a first-place finish in the five-team meet that featured UNH, the University of Connecticut, University of Rhode Island, Central Connecticut State and Fairfield.
