DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team has announced that the squad will hold its ninth annual "Volley 4 Holly" tournament on Wednesday, May 7 at Lundholm Gymnasium from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event was created to raise money for Wildcat volleyball player Holly Young, who passed away on Jan. 24, 2008 after a courageous three-year battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. All funds raised at the event will go to the Holly Young Fund, a scholarship foundation set up at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in South Yarmouth, Mass. In addition, donations can be also made to the Jimmy Fund, which supports the Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in raising funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research.
Each team must have a minimum of six players (12 maximum) to compete in the tournament. All paperwork and a donation of $50 dollars must be turned in no later than Thursday, May 1. Checks can be made out to the Holly Young Fund. Teams must be physically present and checked in no later than 10:30 a.m. on the day of the tournament. Completed forms and donations can be turned in to either Tori Forrest (Powder Springs, Ga.) or Katie Sattora (Avon, N.Y.). All team members must sign a NCAA student-athlete fundraiser release form individually.
The UNH community will be on hand participating in the tournament honoring Holly's memory and helping raise money for a worthy cause. The winning team will get the opportunity to compete against the UNH volleyball team in the final match of the day.
