CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team opened its spring schedule Saturday afternoon at the Boston College Tournament, going 4-5 in a trio of games played at Power Gym.
The Wildcats topped Providence College in the second match of the round-robin tournament, 2-1. However, UNH fell to the University of Connecticut (1-2) and Boston College (1-2).
The set scores were as followed:
UNH 1 – UConn 2 (25-20, 24-26, 13-15)
UNH 2 – Providence 1 (25-22, 25-21, 11-15)
UNH 1 – Boston College 2 (26-24, 11-25, 9-15)
Junior Taylor Dunklau (Mukwonago, Wis.) orchestrated the offense with 49 assists and chipped in 14 digs. Sophomore Tori Forrest (Powder Springs, Ga.) led the offense with 23 kills, three aces and a .198 hitting percentage (30 points). Forrest also scooped up 19 digs in the tournament. Classmate Brenna Buckwalter (Evergreen, Colo.) notched 16 kills on the strength of a .382 clip and pitched in four blocks (20 points). Junior Delaney Dameron (Alpharetta, Ga.) registered a team-high .417 hitting percentage with 12 kills and two blocks for 14 points.
Sophomore Madison Lightfoot (Clarkston, Mich.) tallied 30 digs and a pair of aces to spearhead the defensive effort. Classmate Cassidy Croci (Sylvania, Ohio) racked up a team-high eight blocks in the tournament.
The Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday, April 1 (7 p.m.) at Lundholm Gymnasium in a rematch against Boston College.
