KEDING POSTS GAME-HIGH 18 KILLS IN VOLLEYBALL LOSS TO ALBANY

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Amy Keding (Northbrook, Ill.) hammered home a match-high 18 kills, and her four blocks tied for match-best honors, but the first-place University at Albany Great Danes defeated the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, 3-1, in America East volleyball action Friday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-17.

Albany improves to 17-7 overall and 7-2 in America East action, while UNH slips to 9-16 overall, 9-16 in the league.

Sara Heldman (Greenwood, Ind.) led all players with 39 assists, complementing that effort with 12 digs. Justine Elliott (Mitchelville, Md.) had a solid all-around outing with nine kills, three assists and four blocks, tied for the team lead, while Lauren Laquerre (Concord, N.H.) paced the Wildcats with 13 digs.

The Great Danes raced out to a 9-0 lead in the opening set before the Wildcats responded by rattling off 13 of the next 17 points, trimming the Albany lead to 14-13. Keding paced the charge with two kills, with Heldman assisting on kills from Taylor Dressing (Gillette, N.J.), Elliott and Destiny Tolliver (Rochester, Mich.). The 'Cats and Danes exchanged points before Albany pulled away on a 7-3 spurt to close out the set.

The nip-and-tuck second set included ties at 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11 before New Hampshire took command by going on a 10-1 run for a 21-12 advantage.  Elliot was instrumental in the outburst, collecting three of her nine kills and sharing in a pair of blocks with Keding. Morgan Thatcher (Brockton, Mass.) notched a pair of kills, with Heldman assisting on a Tolliver kill. Jessie Schnepp (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added one of her match-leading four service aces as the Wildcats evened the match at a set apiece.

Heldman assisted on kills from Elliott and Thatcher, before adding one of her own, as UNH led the third set, 4-3.  But Albany would not trail the rest of the match. The Great Danes were led by Teresa Coppiellie (16 kills, eight digs, two blocks) and Casey Wright (13 kills, four blocks).

UNH returns to action for Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. UNH Athletics is partnering with the New Hampshire Food Bank and WOKQ 97.5 for the third annual Wildcat Food Drive.
