DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta) had a match-high 13 kills and six digs to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a three-set sweep of America East foe the University of Hartford, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium. The match scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-17. UNH improves to 4-16, 1-3 in America East, while the Hawks are now 5-17, 0-4 AE.
In addition to Bates, Lauren Laquerre (Concord, N.H.) and Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif.) each tallied eight kills, while Pauline Acres (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Justine Elliott (Mitchellville, Md.) each had five kills. Setter Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich.) recorded a team-best 34 assists and had a .941 serving percentage. Defensively, Alyse Lahti (Pepper Pike, Ohio) had a match-best 14 digs.
The first set was back and forth early as the Hawks held an 11-10 lead. The teams were tied 16-16 before UNH closed out the set on a 9-1 run. In the second set, the Wildcats sprinted out to a 16-7 lead and never looked back as they earned the nine-point set win. In the final set, UNH held a slim 10-8 lead before rattling off seven of the next eight points to build a 17-11 lead and went on to earn the set win and secure the match.
UNH returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 19 for its ninth-annual “Pack the Arena” event against America East foe Stony Brook University.
