Wildcat volleyball competes at Rhode Island Tournament

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team opened its 2005 spring schedule Saturday afternoon at the URI Tournament in Kingston, Rhode Island. The Wildcats won four of seven games on the day with wins against Rhode Island (30-22), Bryant (31-29), Connecticut (30-26) and the URI alumni (30-28) and losses to Boston College (27-30), Fairfield (23-30) and Northeastern (23-30). UNH played each team for one game to 30 points in rally scoring format.

The Wildcats were led by junior outside hitter Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) who posted a team-high 17 kills on the day and added eight total blocks. Senior libero Jen Williams (Mountain View, Calif.) ran the Wildcat offense with a team-best 54 assists and 24 digs. Junior outside hitter Katie Steffens (Munroe, Conn.) registered eight kills and 18 digs for the 'Cats, while freshman middle hitter Toni Barnas (Cary, Ill.) notched 13 kills, eight digs and four blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alberta) finished the day with 12 kills, 17 digs and three blocks and freshman middle hitter Jess Compton (Woodridge, Ill.) amassed a team-high 12 blocks to go along with three kills and a .300 hitting percentage, which was a team best. Junior middle hitter Karen Harrington (Windham, N.H.) posted 11 kills and six digs on the afternoon.
