NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday that sophomore Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire women’s outdoor track and field team has been named to the USTFCCCA All-East Region Team.

At the NCAA East Regional at Florida State University’s Mike Long Track on May 30-31, Ciambra qualified for the NCAA national championships by placing fifth in the pole vault by clearing a height of 3.96 meters. Ciambra smashed the school record of 3.85 meters that she set April 5 at the Wildcat Invitational I and again most recently at the ECAC championships May 18. Ciambra is the first UNH woman to advance to the national championships since senior Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass.) did so in both 2006 and 2007.

To be considered All-Region the student-athlete must place in the top eight of his/her respective event and that student-athlete’s institution must be a current member of the USTFCCCA.

The NCAA national championships will take place at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on June 11-14.
