STORRS, Conn. - Jessica Descartes (Randolph, Mass.) broke the school record in the hammer throw event on Saturday, April 30, just a week after Chia Ling Wu (Merrimack, N.H.) set the mark. Descartes' throw of 48.16 meters was good enough for third place in the event. Wu was hot on her heels in fourth. Descartes also took fourth in the discus throw.
The 100-meter dash belonged to UNH. Katrina Louvitakis (Ludlow, Mass.) won the event in a time of 13.38 seconds and teammate Melissa Murphy (Rockland, Mass.) came in a close second. Kaitlin Norberg (Medfield, Mass.) took the victory in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.67 seconds. Kiah Quarles (Derry, N.H.) came in second and Amy Roccio (Beverly, Mass.) took fifth in the event. Quarles added a third place finish to her day in the long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters.
Kristen Meisner (Nashua, N.H.) took second place in the 400-meter event in a time of 1:01.25. Kimberly Usseglio (Watertown, Mass.) was two places behind Meisner in fourth. Kristen Kowalski (Essex Junction, Vt.) took third in the 200-meter dash, running it in 27.87 seconds.
Chloe Harry (Tyler, Texas) had two fourth place finishes on the day in the 400-meter hurdles and the high jump. Rebecca Haley (Dover, N.H.) took fifth in the 800-meter run. Amanda Cmielewski (Englishtown, N.J.) was sixth in the shot put.
The Wildcats are back in action next weekend when they compete at the America East championships, May 7-8, hosted by Binghamton University.
