NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Lesley Read (Dover, N.H.), a senior on the University of New Hampshire women's track team, broke the school record with a second-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the ECAC Track and Field Outdoor Championships, which were hosted by Yale University from May 13-16.
Read crossed the finish line of the steeplechase in 10 minutes, 28.21 seconds to break the UNH record formerly held by Megan Hepp (Milton, Vt.), who competed in the 10,000m and also earned second place with a time of 35:20.56. Fellow Wildcat Emily Mareb (Great Barrington, Mass.) also raced in the 10,000m and finished seventh in 36:08.28.
Read, who was recently named a co-recipient of the Jim Urquhart Award (presented annually to UNH's most outstanding student-athlete), will race in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Eastern Regional Championships this weekend at the University of Florida. Brandon Williams (Hooksett, N.H.) of the UNH men's track team will compete in the 1500m at the NCAA Eastern regionals.
