RESULTS

KINGSTON, R.I.
– Senior captain Rebecca Haley (Dover, N.H.) was one of four athletes to win an event for the University of New Hampshire women’s indoor track and field team as they placed second at the University of Rhode Island Mega Meet on Feb. 2 at Mackal Field House.

The Wildcats’ 175 points were not enough to top URI (249.50), but were more than enough to get by the University of Massachusetts (131.5), Quinnipiac University (48), Central Connecticut State University (19), Rhode Island College (15) and Bryant University (12).

Haley won the 1,000 meters in a time of two minutes, 57.11 seconds, a performance that qualified her for the ECAC Championships. Freshmen Lindsey Jeltes (Oakland, N.J.) and Sydney Fitzpatrick (Billerica, Mass.) and junior Elizabeth Morrissey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) finished in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Jeltes finished in a time of 3:00.16, Fitzpatrick in 3:01.95 and Morrissey in 3:04.26.

Senior captain Kiah Quarles (Derry, N.H.) raced to victory in the 55 meter hurdles. Finishing in 8.31 seconds. Sophomore Tayla Ryan (Norwood, Mass.), senior Kathleen Hoppe (Hopkinton, Mass.) and freshman Megan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.) were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Ryan finished in a time of 8.80, with Hoppe finishing at 9.06 and Donohue coming across at 9.18.

Donohue also won the long jump, edging teammates Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.) and Kiah Quarles. Donohue, Camille and Kiah had jumps of 5.21, 5.18 and 5.17 meters, respectively.

Camille scored a win of her own, grabbing victory in the triple jump with a distance of 11.27 meters.

In the pole vault, sophomore Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) placed second with a leap of 3.60 meters, coming up just short of the winning leap of 3.70 meters. The performance tied the school record that Ciambra herself set at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Jan. 25.

Sophomore Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne, N.Y.) placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.04 meters, and also became an ECAC qualifier. Junior Erica Desroches (Stratham, N.H.) placed fifth with a distance of 14.58 meters. Desroches was also sixth in the shot put with a distance of 11.73 meters.

Freshman Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.) came in second in the 500 meters, finishing in a time of 1:17.46.

The Wildcats also came in second in the 4x400 relay, finishing in a time of 4:01.42.

Freshman Kimberly Kunces (Darien, Conn.) was fourth in the 800 meters, finishing in a time of 2:26.81.

Sophomore Kelly Thomas (Chichester, N.H.) and freshman Kaitlyn Dugan (Hatfield, Pa.) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400 meters, with Thomas finishing in 1:01.34 and Dugan finishing in 1:02.15. The Wildcats return to action Friday, Feb. 8 when they take part in the Valentine Invitational at the Track and Tennis Center in Boston.
