BOSTON - With a first place finish in the 1500-meter run and a second-place result in the 3000-meter run on Saturday against Maine, sophomore Nicole Whalen (Warwick, N.Y.) has been named the America East Female Track Performer of the Week, announced today by the conference office.
Whalen was the only runner to break the five-minute mark in the 1500m run, finishing with a time of 4:50.38. Her time of 10:37.82 in the 3000m run was five-tenths of a second behind teammate and race winner Jennifer Busse (Hollis, N.H.).
Whalen earned eight points for the Wildcats, but it was not enough as Maine defeated New Hampshire, 94-86, in the dual meet. The Wildcats are now 3-2 so far in the indoor track season after defeating Maine, Providence, and UMass and losing to Boston University at a five-way meet on December 4.
The UNH women's track and field team will return to action on Friday, January 7, at the University of Rhode Island beginning at 1 p.m.
