KINGSTON, R.I.-- The University of New Hampshire women's indoor track team competed at the URI New Year Classic over the weekend and the Wildcats saw several athletes finish among the top competitors.
Sophomore Ashley Vance (Manchester, N.H.) took first place in the women's 1,000 meter run with a clocking of 3:04.23, as the Wildcats captured four of the top five spots in the finals. She also was a key cog in UNH's first-place finish in the 4x800 relay, which crossed the finish line with a clocking of 9:36.89. URI was second (9:42.20), followed by Connecticut (9:42.51) and the URI "B" squad 10:15.69.
Competing with Vance in the 4x800 were sophomore Nicole Whalen (Warwick, N.Y.), freshman Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass) and junior Chelsea Corr (East Greenbush, N.Y.
Corr also ran well in the mile with a time of 5:12.40 to place third, followed in fourth place by junior Jennifer Busse (Hollis, N.H.), who crossed the line in 5:16.08.
