KINGSTON, R.I.- The University of New Hampshire women's indoor track team placed second in a four-team meet held Friday at the University of Rhode Island. The host Rams captured the meet with 183 points, with UNH a close second at 173. Central Connecticut (113) and Providence (82) rounded out the field.
The Wildcats captured four individual and one team event victory. Senior Heidi Flanders (Richmond, N.H.) placed first in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:18.75. Classmate Abigail Flynn captured the 55-meter hurdles in 9.09 seconds, while freshman Caley Valliere had a pole vault of 9'10" to take top honors. Kristen Meisner placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.50. The 4x400-meter relay team also placed first with a time of 4:05.61.
Several other Wildcats placed near the top of their events. Senior Amy DeCamp (Londoinderry, N.H.) placed second in the 800-meter at 2:16.12, junior Katie Litwinowich (Holden, Mass.) came in second in the 1000-meter run (2:56.77) while senior Alicia Anderson (Orleans, Mass.) was a runner-up in the high jump with a jump of 5'3" and placed third in the 55-meter hurdles as well.
Freshman Amy Czesnowski placed third in the 400-meter behind Meisner with a time of 1:02.68. Katie Louvitakis was third in the 200-meter run with a time of 27.29, while Caitlin Hayes and Suzanne Biron placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 1-mile run. Tracy Lambert placed second in the long jump and triple jump, while teammate Kerry McGeoghan was third in the triple jump.
The UNH women's indoor track team returns to action on Jan. 20 at the New York Armory Invitational. The meet is scheduled for 4 p.m.
