Throwers Excel on Day One of ECAC/IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - Seniors George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H.) and Rosemary Read (West Greenwich, R.I.) each placed in the hammer throw to pace the way for UNH on the first day of competition at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on the campus of Princeton University.

Jumpp started things off for the Wildcats with a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw. The senior logged a personal-best throw of 197 feet and 9 inches for fifth.

Read followed with a school-record of her own to snag sixth in the hammer throw. The senior thrower launched a toss of 186 feet and 9 inches to claim sixth. Her 186-05 bested the old school record of 185-05 set by Ashlee Lathrop in 2010.

Fresman Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass) also placed on the day for UNH. Piazza scored eighth place in the 800-meter dash preliminary round with a personal-best time of 1 minute and 50.15 seconds to qualify for Sunday's final round.
