UNH Track and Field To Compete at ECAC/IC4A Championships (May 17 &18, 11 a.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18 at Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton University in Princeton, N.J.

Senior George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H.), freshman Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.), and freshmanChristopher Poggi (Derry, N.H.) will compete for the men's team at IC4As.

Jumpp, a senior thrower for the Wildcats, enters the competition following a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw at New England Championships last weekend. Jumpp measured a toss of 185 feet and 10 inches at New Englands. The previous week, Jumpp earned third place at America East Championships with a mark of 186-08. The senior posted a personal-best mark of 188-03 earlier this season in a first-place effort at the UNH Wildcat Invitational.

Piazza will run the 800-meter race for UNH at Princeton. The freshman middle-distance runner has performed very well for UNH this season, most recently earning seventh place in the 800 at New England Championships with a personal-best time of 1 minute and 51.09 seconds. The freshman also turned in a pair of top-eight performances at America East Championships. Piazza took fifth in the 800 with a time of 1:51.94 and placed second with the 4x800 relay team (7:34.77) at the conference meet.

The final competitor for the Wildcats will be Poggi. Another freshman middle-distance runner, Poggi will also compete in the 800m race at Princeton. The Derry, N.H. native scored a pair of top-eight finishes at the America East Championship. Poggi opened with sixth place in the 800 (1:52.15) and also placed second with the 4x800 relay team (7:34.77). Last week Poggi just missed out on a top-eight finish in the 800, placing ninth in a personal-best time of 1:51.60.

On the women's side, senior Rosemary Read (West Greenwich, R.I.) and sophomore Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) will be competing.

A senior thrower for UNH, Read enters the weekend fresh off the individual title in the hammer throw at New England Championships. The senior measured a toss of 175 feet and 11 inches to earn first place out of 23 competitors at New Englands. The previous week, Read posted a mark of 171-01 to take first in the same event at America East Championships.

Perrodin will also compete for the Wildcats at IC4As. The sophomore sprinter has had a spring for the history books for UNH, posting six different school-record performances during the season.  Perrodin has broken the 100-meter dash record three times for UNH, most recently racing to a time of 11.71 seconds and a fourth place finish at New England Championships. The sophomore has also run well with the 4x100-meter relay squad, which has bolted to three school-record performances of its own, most recently a 47.40 time in a sixth-place performance at New Englands.
