DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team competed in the final meet of the regular season, the UNH Wildcat Invitational II, on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie F. Atkins Track.
The Wildcats scored 133 points to place second behind the University of Massachusetts (188). The University of Vermont took third place (92.50), Dartmouth College placed fourth (77), Central Connecticut State University earned fifth (61), UMass Lowell followed in sixth (52), and the University of Maine closed things out in seventh (39.50).
Sophomore sprinter Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) opened things up for the Wildcats with a victory in the 100-meter dash. Perrodin secured the victory with a time of 12.30 seconds.
The Wildcats' 4x100-meter relays squad also captured a first-place finish. The team of junior Virginia Lavallee (Kingston, N.H.), sophomore Abbey Smith (Derry, N.H.), sophomore Sydney Kay (Fairfield, Conn.), and sophomore Molly Clark (Hingham, Mass.) recorded a time of 46.76 seconds to take the victory.
Lavallee followed with by placing second in the 100-meter hurdles. The junior sprinter logged a time of 14.88 seconds on her way to second place.
Freshman Alexandria Giese (Franklin, Mass.) claimed a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event. Giese logged a time of 11 minutes and 35.31 seconds to take the top spot.
The Wildcats also got a top-two finish from senior Allison Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.). The senior posted a time of 25.92 seconds to finish second in the race.
UNH also excelled in field events on the afternoon, starting with the javelin throw. Sophomore Andrea Turteltaub (Mansfield, Mass.), senior Michelle Gearin (York, Maine), and sophomore Taylor Ordway (Plaistow, N.H.) all placed in the event. Turteltaub placed first in the event with a measurement of 130 feet and 5 inches, Gearin took sixth with a mark of 103-04, and Ordway scored eighth with a toss of 91-04.
Freshman Rachel Provost (Keene, N.H.) also placed for the Wildcats. Provost claimed the eighth spot in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:40.13.
Freshman Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass.) and Ordway took top-eight finishes in the 400-meter hurdles. Messina placed first with a time of 1:05.78, while Ordway finished fourth in 1:07.81.
A pair of Wildcats also recorded top-eight finishes in the long jump event. Senior Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.) and Ordway placed sixth (16-08.50) and eighth (15-11.75), respectively.
Two more UNH Athletes placed in the shot put. Junior Abby Huntress (Saco, Maine) recorded a toss of 37-11.50 to finish fifth, while sophomore Abigail Kaplan (Franklin, N.H.) took seventh with a mark of 36-03.00.
The trio of sophomore Victoria Tondre (Canton, Mass.), freshman Brianna Coviello (North Andover, Mass.), and freshman Lexie Arbour (Monson, Mass.) all finished in the top-eight of the triple jump event. Tondre took sixth (32-07.75), Coviello earned seventh (31-08.50), and Arbour placed eighth (31-06.75).
