ORONO, Maine – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team placed second with a score of 136 points, finishing right behind Maine (147) and ahead of Bates College (112) in a meet at the University of Maine on Saturday.
Abby Huntress (Saco, Maine) earned the first top-finish of the day for the Wildcats in the shot put, throwing to a distance of 11.10 meters. Michelle Gearin (York, Maine) took the top spot in the javelin throw after clearing a distance of 39.13 meters.
Stephanie Walsh (Penacook, N.H.) slung the discus a distance of 38.15, earning first in the event. Joya Helander (Madison, Conn.) took gold in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.00, topping the second place finisher by more than two seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, Sydney Kay (Fairfield, Conn.) took first place after crossing the finish line with a time of 26.70.
The squad will return home to host Holy Cross and the University of Maine on April 6 at the Reggie F. Atkins track and field facility at the University of New Hampshire. The meet is set to start at 11 a.m.
