OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD IMPRESSIVE AT PENN RELAYS

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Senior Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne, N.Y.) finished second in the hammer throw to lead the University of New Hampshire outdoor track and field team at the 115th Penn Relays on April 22-24.

Lathrop, who owns the best hammer throw mark in the America East this season at 55.51 meters, submitted a toss of 53.57m to finish just over five feet behind Middle Tennessee's Brittany Cox, who handed in a mark of 55.37m.

Also on the women's side, senior Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) placed 10th in the championship pole vault after clearing a height of 3.70m.

Senior Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) ran to a 13th-place finish in the championship 10,000m as she finished in a time of 36 minutes, 4.42 seconds.

On the men's side, graduate student Jeff Kaste (Atkinson, N.H.) finished fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.77m.

Senior Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.) also handed in a fifth-place finish in the championship section of the hammer throw with a mark of 61.86m.

Senior Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 17.51m.

Senior Matt O'Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) placed 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:20.20.

The Wildcats return to action May 1-2 when they play host to the America East Championships at Reggie F. Atkins Track.
