Women's Soccer Selected Fifth in AE Preseason Poll
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team, led by first-year head coach Sam Lopes, was selected to finish fifth in the 2013 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference Thursday.
Hartford took the top spot in the poll after receiving 61 points, including five first-place votes while reigning conference champion Stony Brook was selected second with 59 points and four first-place votes. The University of Maine came in third in the voting after garnering 49 points while Vermont finished fourth with 38 points. New Hampshire tallied 35 votes for fifth place while Albany was selected sixth with 29 points. Binghamton (28), UMBC (15) and first-year America East member UMass-Lowell (8) rounded finished seventh through ninth.
The Wildcats finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 5-12-2 and a conference mark of 3-4-1, earning the right to host the first round of the America East. The quarterfinal match marked the 12th consecutive year that New Hampshire has played in the America East Championship, a conference record.
The 'Cats will hit the road to start the season with a pair of neutral site games being held at the University of Vermont. The first game is slated for Friday, Aug. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
