    Corvallis
, Ore. – The University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team fell to the University of Oregon, 1-0, in the opening match of the Oregon State University Nike Classic on Friday night.
The Wildcats (1-2-0) played a physical and intense contest throughout, but the Ducks’ (1-3-0) defense limited UNH to just five shots during the contest. After a scoreless first half of play, the Ducks finally went ahead on a hard shot from inside the box off the foot of Ducks forward Nicole Garbin during the 53rd minute of action. Ducks goalkeeper Jessie Chatfield notched two saves on the day, but it was the stingy defense that lifted the Ducks to their first victory of the season.
Wildcat senior Lia Barros (Sammamish, Wash.) and sophomore forward Michelle Sheehan (Belmont, Mass.) each registered a shot on goal in the loss. UNH goalkeeper Lynn Gugliuzza (Kenmore, N.Y.) delivered another sold outing, making three saves.
UNH attempts to get back in the win column on Sunday (Sept. 10) when they face the host of the tournament Oregon State at 1:30 Pacific time.
