New Hampshire women's soccer falls to Maine, 1-0, in OT

ORONO, Maine. - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team opened its America East schedule with a 1-0 overtime loss against the University of Maine on Friday afternoon.

After 90 minutes of scoreless play in regulation, Maine (5-1-0, 1-0-0) captured the win on a Jessica Wojcik goal 3:20 into the first overtime session. Her shot from the right wing beat UNH goalkeeper Steph Springer (Solana Beach, Calif.). Springer finished with four saves.

New Hampshire (2-5-0, 0-1-0) had a handful of scoring chances, most of which were provided by leading scorer Angeline Alexakos (Bedford, N.H.).

Maine goalie Naomi Welsh stopped four shots to record the shutout.

New Hampshire continues its seven-game road swing Sept. 24 (1 p.m.) against Rhode Island. The next home game is Oct. 13 (3 p.m.) vs. Vermont.
