EAST BURKE, Vt. – Randa Teschner (Petawawa, Ontario) raced to a fourth-place slalom finish at Burke Mountain on Sunday to spearhead the University of New Hampshire ski team's third-place result in that event and third-place standing overall halfway through the Vermont Carnival.
UNH scored 104 points in women's SL and 81 points (fourth place) in men's SL to push the Wildcats' team total to 368 points through the alpine portion of the UVM Carnival. The host Catamounts are currently first with 484 points, followed by Dartmouth (430 points). Sunday's SL races were makeups for the postponed Jan. 11 Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) events at Mt. Mansfield.
Teschner combined a first-run time of 47.22 seconds with a second run of 50.15 seconds for a total of 1:37.37 for 41 points. Katie Farrow (Toronto, Ontario) also registered a top-10 finish for the Wildcats with a combined 1:39.58 for seventh place (35 points). Morgan Klein (Oregon, Wis.) notched UNH's remaining 28 points courtesy of a 14th-place time of 1:40.80. Dartmouth (118 points) edged Vermont (114) in women's SL.
Sam Coffey (Snowmass, Colo.) was the top 'Cat on the men's alpine side; he crossed the finish line in a combined 1:37.08 for 11th place (30 points). Jay Ogle (Pittsfield, Mass.) placed 16th (26 points) in 1:37.39, and Geoff Bonewald (New London, N.H.) tied for 17th place (1:37.42/25 points). Vermont won men's SL with 136 points.
The Vermont Carnival switches gears to Nordic team racing next weekend. Trapp Family Lodge serves as the host site for men's/women's classic sprint races (Saturday, Feb. 1) and the women's 5K/men's 10K skate races (Sunday, Feb. 2).
