Skiing to Honor Former Coaches at UNH/BU Men's Ice Hockey Game (Oct. 20)
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire skiing program will honor former coaches Tom Barstow, Tom Upham, Ned McSherry and Rex Bell prior to this Saturday's UNH/BU men's ice hockey game at the Whittemore Center.
The former Wildcat coaches will be feted during a pregame social with their former players and current UNH skiers from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Skybox Lounge.
"This will be a special night to celebrate the rich tradition of UNH skiing," Nordic head coach and ski coordinator Cory Schwartz said. "We believe in bringing together our current student-athletes and alumni with former coaches who paved the way for our past and future successes."
Barstow, who was also a professor at UNH, coached the ski team after legendary Ed Blood in 1967-68.
Upham guided the program from 1968-72. His daughter, Betsy, later competed for the Wildcat Nordic ski team.
McSherry coached the Wildcats during the 1974 campaign before going on to coach for the U.S. National Team.
