DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire women's Nordic skier Liz Guiney (Park City, Utah) has been selected to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District ® Women's At-Large First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday.
Guiney was recognized for her combined performance in competition and in the classroom. The sophomore boasts an impeccable 4.0 grade point average majoring in genetics, which earned her a second straight USCSCA All-Academic Team berth in 2011. As the 10th-ranked EISA Nordic skier this past season, Guiney notched a place on the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) All-East Second Team and competed for the Wildcats in the 2011 NCAA Ski Championships.
"We are very proud of Liz and congratulate her on this impressive achievement," UNH ski coordinator and Nordic head coach Cory Schwartz said. "She is an exemplary student-athlete who makes the most of her abilities academically and athletically, and we are excited to know she'll be an integral member of our team again next season."
As a member of the All-District First Team, Guiney advances to the Capital One Academic All-America ® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
UNH is part of CoSIDA's University Division I, which encompasses Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.
Women's at-large sports include bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.
