BALTIMORE, Md. – Kate Keagins (Bay Shore, N.Y.), a senior midfielder and captain of the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, was named to the IWLCA Northeast Region Second Team on Thursday.
Keagins and the other student-athletes who received this honor in Division I are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-America teams that will be announced May 27.
Keagins, who was named to the America East All-Conference First Team earlier this month, led UNH in ground balls (35), draw controls (34) and caused turnovers (30); she also ranked second in goals (29 – personal best), points (38) and shots (63), tied for second in assists (nine) as well as fourth in shooting percentage (.460). Keagins is ranked 13th nationally in caused turnovers per game.
She started 15 of 16 games and recorded a point in all but the last game of the season with 12 multiple-point efforts, which included seven multiple-goal games. She recorded at least one ground ball every game (nine multiple-GB games), a ground ball in 14 of 16 (nine multi-GBs) and a CTO in all but two games (12 multi-CTOs).
Keagins' season highlights included five goals at Columbia University (April 18), a five-point effort (4g, 1a) at nationally-ranked Stanford University (March 11) and a four-goal performance against the University at Albany (April 14). She filled the stat sheet in the season opener against nationally-ranked Dartmouth College with two goals, three GB, five DC and four CTO, and also tallied impressive all-around numbers against Binghamton University with three goals, three GB, four DC and three CTO. In her final home game, Keagins recorded two goals, two assists, four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers to lead UNH to a 12-11 victory against UMBC.
Keagins was also voted the 2012 America East Women's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of the Year.
