Women's Lacrosse Announces 2012 Schedule

2012 UNH Women's Lacrosse Schedule

DURHAM, N.H.
– Michael Daly, University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse head coach, announced the Wildcats' upcoming 2012 schedule on Monday. The 16-game schedule includes seven home games and five 2011 NCAA tournament teams that finished the year ranked in the top 20.

"All the UNH players and coaches are excited about our 2012 season schedule and we are eagerly looking forward to high-level and varied competition this spring," Daly said. "We have scheduled a very strong out-of-conference slate of games, with some new opponents, which will not only prepare us for the ultra-competitive America East conference, but also allow us to face many different styles of play that will pay dividends late in the season."

Opening up the 2012 season with intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Feb. 25 at UNH Memorial Field and closing regular-season play at ACC and regional foe Boston College, both of which were NCAA tournament teams in 2011, coach Daly anticipates this tough schedule to prepare the Wildcats well for America East conference play and a chance to play for a championship come May.

After battling Dartmouth, the Wildcats and University of Massachusetts – another of the aforementioned 2011 NCAA tourney participants – celebrate the leap year with a game on Feb. 29. New Hampshire opens March at home against the Big East's UConn Huskies on March 7, followed by a trip out west to face 2011 NCAA participant and MPSF league champion Stanford University on March 11 and Fresno State University on March 14.

Upon returning home to Durham, the Wildcats have a three-game home stretch that begins March 18 vs. Fairfield University and continues against America East foe Binghamton University on March 24 and perennially nationally-ranked Vanderbilt University on March 28.

The Wildcats return to America East action March 31 at the University of Vermont and then the 'Cats travel to play arch-rival Boston University on April 4. A series of three consecutive road games ends April 7 at Lehigh University.

New Hampshire plays host to the University at Albany on April 14 and then travels to the Empire State to battle Columbia University on April 18. UNH celebrates Senior Day on April 21, when the Wildcats play host to UMBC in their last home game of the regular season. The America East portion of the schedule concludes April 28 at Stony Brook, then the 'Cats close the 2012 regular season May 1 at BC.

The America East Championship tournament will take place May 3 & 5 at the home site of the America East regular-season champion.

"The UNH players have worked tremendously hard during the summer, fall and offseason to give our young and talented team the best possible chance of competing for a conference championship and a cherished NCAA bid in May," Daly said. "We are up to and welcome the challenge and opportunity of each and every contest on our 2012 schedule."
