PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior assistant captain Colleen Christopher (Newington, N.H.) scored five goals, including the 100th of her career, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated by Brown University, 15-6, at Stevenson Field on Tuesday afternoon.
New Hampshire had its three-game winning streak snapped and is now 5-3. Brown improved to 3-4.
Christopher netted the Wildcats' first three goals to give UNH a 3-1 lead at 21:35. Her third tally was the 100th of her career. She is just the fifth New Hampshire player to reach that plateau.
Brown rallied to tie the score, 3-3, and took a 6-5 lead into the second half. The Bears netted the initial four goals of the second half to open a 10-5 advantage. Sarah Cahill (Lexington, Mass.) trimmed the deficit to 10-6 at 17:08, but the home team pulled away down the stretch.
UNH starting goalie Amanda Warren (Amherst, N.H.) played the first half and made six saves. Danielle Martin (Ellicott City, Md.) made five saves over the final 30 minutes.
Brown was led offensively by Margueritte McDonald (five goals) and Rebekah Rottenberg (three goals, two assists). Niki Caggiano made 12 saves and was pulled with 4:11 to play. Randi Macdonald stopped four shots.
New Hampshire returns to action April 6 against the University of Vermont. The game, originally scheduled to be played at UNH's Memorial Field, will be played at Omni Turf Field on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
