BOSTON - Casey Carroll, head coach of the women’s track and field team, participated in the 118th annual Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon.
Carroll finished the 26.2-mile race in 2 hours, 53 minutes, and 36 seconds, placing 1,310th overall, 1,239th among males, and 154th in his age group. Carroll ran a pace of 6:37 minutes per mile.
“It was a truly amazing experience, a race that had spectators and a great crowd and great community that cheered us from the start to finish, wall to wall,” Carroll said of the experience.
“I was happy with my time,” he added. “It was a couple minutes slower than my target time, but overall it was good.”
Though Carroll has run many marathons in his life, this was his first time running Boston. He spoke about the importance of getting to run in this particular event.
“This was a day where the running community really rallied, banded together, and where the runners were able to give back to the running community after what happened last year.”
When asked to sum up his experience, coach Carroll described it as “phenomenal.”
