Wilkes Selected as Women's Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Ashley Wilkes (North Pole, Alaska), a freshman goaltender on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named the Women's Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Wilkes made a career-high 27 saves in UNH's 2-1 loss at seventh-ranked Quinnipiac University on Nov. 16; those numbers calculated to a .931 save percentage and 2.05 GAA. Wilkes shut out the Bobcats, who entered the game No. 11 in the nation at 3.08 goals per game, in the first period with six saves and followed that with 10 in the second and 11 in the third. She was not scored upon until 17:39 of the second stanza and QU netted the game-winning goal with 2:17 remaining in regulation.

In two career games (both starts), Wilkes has a 1-1-0 record with a 1.52 GAA and .936 save percentage. In her other start, the rookie backboned UNH to a 3-1 victory at Penn State University on Oct. 27 with a 17-save effort.
