WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Kristina Lavoie (Fonthill, Ontario), a junior forward on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named the Athletic Republic co-Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
It is the second time in three weeks Lavoie has been honored as the league's Player of the Week. She was previously honored Jan. 16. Lavoie shares this week's accolade with Kerrin Sperry of Boston University.
Lavoie factored in four of UNH's five goals last week with three goals and an assist as the Wildcats split a home-and-home series against the University of Vermont. She recorded her first career hat trick with three goals in a 4-2 victory Jan. 28 at the Whittemore Center. Lavoie scored the first two goals of the game – at 3:23 and 19:08 of the first period – as well as the tally that gave UNH a 4-0 lead at 6:00 of the second stanza. The next day at UVM's Gutterson Fieldhouse, she set up the goal that gave UNH a 1-0 lead with 48 seconds remaining in the first period.
Lavoie leads the team in goals (11) and points (24) and is tied atop the leaderboard in assists (13). She also has a team-high 87 shots. In 93 career games, Lavoie has amassed 38 goals and 35 assists for 73 points; she is UNH's active leader in both goals and points, and is second in assists.
New Hampshire (10-15-3 overall, 4-9-2 Hockey East) returns to action Feb. 4 at home against Boston University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 2 p.m.
