Wildcats have won the award three straight weeks
WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Stephanie Jones (Kimberley, B.C.), a senior forward and captain on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. It marked the third consecutive week and fourth time this season that a UNH player received that honor.
Jones recorded five points with four goals and an assist in two games last week. She matched her career high of three goals in a game when she recorded a natural hat trick with three even-strength goals in the second period at second-ranked Dartmouth College last Wednesday. Jones became the first Wildcat to score three goals in a single period since Dec. 11, 1999, when Carisa Zaban accomplished the feat vs. Maine. Jones' first two tallies gave UNH a 2-1 lead to mark the first time this season that the Big Green trailed in a game. Jones also recorded a goal and assist in UNH's 5-2 Hockey East victory against UConn on Saturday.
Jones is tied for the team lead in goals this season with nine. She is third in points (17) and fourth in assists (eight) as well as the tied for the lead in game-winning goals (two). She has recorded a point in 10 of 14 games this season with five multiple-point efforts.
Jones is UNH's active career leader in games played (121), goals (64) and points (117). Those numbers rank tied for 14th on the program's all-time goal list and tied for 21st in points.
UNH (10-3-1 overall, 5-0-0 Hockey East) returns to action Dec. 9 (7 p.m.) at Northeastern University. The Wildcats conclude the 2004 calendar year at home Dec. 11 vs. Harvard University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 5 p.m.
