WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Led by 2003-04 Top Scholar-Athlete Allison Edgar (Brigden, Ont.), six University of New Hampshire women’s hockey players were named to the Women’s Hockey East All-Academic Team, the league announced Thursday. To qualify for the team, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum grade-point-average of 3.0 in both semesters of the 2003-04 academic year.

Edgar, whose major is exercise science: pre-med, recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA and earned All-Conference First Team honors while patrolling the blue line for the Wildcats in her senior season. The defenseman was the recipient of UNH’s Award for Academic Excellence for the fourth time in as many years at the team's annual banquet.

Edgar was joined on the All-Academic Team by teammates Shannon Clement (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario), Martine Garland (Toronto, Ontario), Carolyn Gordon (Petrolia, Ontario), Maghan Grahn (Roseau, Minn.) and Jaime VanMassenhove (Alpena, Mich.).

VanMassenhove, a senior who played as both forward and defenseman for the 'Cats this season, and Edgar were on last year's inaugural Hockey East All-Academic Team. This marked the first selection to the All-Academic Team for senior forward Gordon – the 2004 Hockey East co-Player of the Year – sophomore goaltender Grahn and freshmen defensemen Clement and Garland.

UNH compiled a 17-1-2 conference record to win the regular-season title and was runner-up in the Hockey East tournament to end the year with a 23-9-4 overall record.

DURHAM, N.H.-WUNH, the student-based radio station at the University of New Hampshire, has announced its plans for continued coverage of the UNH women's ice hockey team. The radio station will expand its broadcast schedule from four games to six for the 2003-04 season. The tentative schedule features four Women's Hockey East conference games as well as contests vs. ECAC rivals Dartmouth College and Harvard University.




CALGARY, Alberta - Martine Garland (Toronto, Ontario), Nicole Hekle (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Stephanie Jones (Kimberley, British Columbia) of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team were invited by Hockey Canada to attend a National Women's Under-22 development camp in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, from Aug. 10-17.
