New Hampshire women's hockey honored by ECAC

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Stephanie Jones (Kimberley, B.C.), a freshman forward on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named Rookie of the Week by the ECAC Eastern Women's Hockey League on Monday. She also won the award Nov. 5.

Jones recorded four points, including a career-high three assists, in UNH's 7-3 victory vs. St. Cloud last Friday. The four points matched her career-best effort, which she also recorded twice against Quinnipiac University - Nov. 3 (three goals, assist) and Jan. 4 (goal, three assists).

With UNH trailing 2-0, Jones set up each of the team's first two goals to tie the game and scored with three seconds remaining in the second period to give the 'Cats a lead they would not relinquish.

She also won 9 of 11 (81.8%) faceoffs, including 7 of 8 vs. Maine, over the weekend.

Jones, who leads the nation with five game-winning goals, has a team-best 15 goals this season and she ranks second in points with 25. She is the only Wildcats skater to reach double digits in both goals and assists (10).

UNH (13-8-2, 7-4-1 ECAC East) returns to action Jan. 25 (7 p.m.) at the University of Connecticut. The next Wildcat home game is Feb. 1 against intrastate rival Dartmouth College. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m.
