CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Freshman defenseman Kristen Thomas (Wilmington, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team was named ECAC Rookie of the Week on Monday. She also received the honor Oct. 30 and Nov. 13, making her the only player to win the award more than once.
Thomas recorded three points in two games against Mercyhurst College (Dec. 15-16). She set up the game's first goal and gave the 'Cats a 4-1 advantage in the team's 5-4 overtime loss. The following day, Thomas led UNH to a 2-1 victory by setting up the game-winning goal.
Thomas leads the team in both goals (10) and power-play goals (five), and she is ranked second on the team in both points (19) and assists (nine). Her numbers also rank her second in the nation in power-play goals, ninth in goals and 19th in points.
New Hampshire, which had two weeks off during the holiday season, resumes play Jan. 6 against Princeton University. The Wildcats also play host to Yale University on Jan. 7. Both games at the Whittemore Center begin at 2 p.m.
