DURHAM, N.H.--Freshman goaltender Jen Huggon (Plymouth, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors Monday for her efforts against Cornell.
In addition, senior forward Samantha Holmes (Mississauga, Ont.) and senior goaltender Alicia Roberts (North Muskegon, Mich.) were named to the ECAC Honor Roll.
Against Cornell on Saturday, Huggon made 26 saves and allowed one goal in the 3-1 win. She posted a .963 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average for the week. It is the third time this season Huggon has received Rookie of the Week honors.
Holmes assisted on senior center Carisa Zaban’s (Glenview, Ill.) first goal of the game against Cornell and added two goals, one on the powerplay and one shorthanded in the win. One of her goals also proved to be the game winning goal.
Playing in her final regular season game on Sunday against St. Lawrence, Roberts stopped 30 shots to earn her fourth shutout of the year. She also recorded an assist on sophomore forward Kelly McManus’ (Dedham, Mass.) game winning goal.
The Wildcats return to action when they host Northeastern University in the ECAC Quarterfinals. The game is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Whittemore Center.
