DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team has announced that registration is still available for the second session of the 2014 Girl's Basketball Wildcat Day Camp.
Open to any and all girls entering the 9th grade as of the fall of 2014, the camp runs from Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18, 2014. Camp check-in will start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14. The hours of each day go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Friday, July 18 as the camp will end at 2 p.m.
Come learn from fifth year head coach Maureen Magarity, who became the youngest head coach of a Division I team – men's or women's – in the country in 2010. In four seasons at New Hampshire, Magarity has led the Wildcats to back-to-back semifinal appearances in the America East tournament the past two seasons. Most recently, Magarity guided the Wildcats to a personal-best 19-12 overall record and 12-4 in conference play, the most wins in a single season since the 1998-99 season (19-8, 13-5 AE).
The camp takes place at the scenic UNH campus. The university is located in Durham, N.H., a 10-minute drive to the ocean and 45 minutes from the mountains. Lundholm Gymnasium features three full basketball courts and a certified athletic trainer will be on duty at all times during camp hours.
Magarity and her staff provide fun-filled instruction and emphasis on the fundamentals of basketball. Beginning players will receive instruction in basic techniques, rules and sportsmanship. More experienced players will be challenged in skill development and competition opportunities.
The camp focuses on balance skills, basketball concepts, fundamentals, footwork as well as breakdown drills focusing on team defense and skill stations. Furthermore, campers will compete in team games.
Campers should bring a boxed lunch, change of sneakers, swimsuit, towel and a water bottle to each day of camp.
