CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman guard Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team has been selected as the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
This is the first weekly award Anderson has won in her collegiate career. Furthermore, the freshman guard is the first Wildcat to garner the honor since Kelsey Hogan (Nashua, N.H.) received the award on Jan. 3, 2011.
Anderson tallied a career-high 30 points and eight rebounds, including nine points in overtime to power the Wildcats over the Brown University Bears, 77-74.
The performance marked the first time a freshman garnered at least 30 points in a game since all-time UNH leading scorer Kris Kinney notched 33 against Boston University on Feb. 6, 1986.
New Hampshire returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, Jan. 7 (7 p.m.) at Lundholm Gymnasium against the Yale University Bulldogs. For tickets, visit UNHWildcats.com or call (603) 862-4000, extension 5.
